Daithi O’Maonaigh, Legal Executive

Daithí graduated from Southeast Technological University, SETU (formerly I.T. Carlow) in 2021 with an Honours Bachelor of Laws, LL.B. degree. He continued to study law at Master’s level and graduated from UCD Sutherland School of Law with a 1st Class Honours LLM degree. His research focussed on White-Collar Crime, Corporate Governance, International Tax & Finance law, Copyright and Arbitration.

Prior to joining KOD Lyons, Daithí worked at FLAC, the Free Legal Advice Centres, as Legal Assistant on the small but powerful Public Interest Law Alliance team. Whilst there he was an integral part of the Irish Pro Bono & Public Interest Law sectors, facilitating pro bono requests between NGOs and Law Firms such as KOD Lyons, and attending international clearinghouse conferences as representative for Ireland. As a trained educator, he also organised numerous legal education sessions and was a key figure in the success of Pro Bono Week 2021. Daithí has a particular interest in charity and NGO corporate governance matters and is also naturally drawn to company law issues too.

Following his time at FLAC, Daithí spent some time at international law firm Dillon Eustace where he joined the Funds Company Secretarial department, learning invaluable minute taking and admin skills and developing far reaching connections in the legal sector.

As Legal Executive in the Immigration Team at KOD Lyons, Daithí’s role is refreshingly varied and includes, inter alia, drafting legal submissions and grounds of appeal for asylum seekers, taking notes at tribunal hearings and liaising with Counsel, assisting with client consultations and preparing blog articles.

Daithí is currently enrolled in the Administrative law and Jurisprudence evening classes at SETU with a view to hopefully attending King’s Inns in the future.
