Rainbows Ireland – Supporting Children with Bereavement and Parental Separation

The team at KOD Lyons are delighted to be supporting Rainbows Ireland through our Coast to Coast Cycle from Dublin to Galway taking place on 3^rd July 2021. Rainbows Ireland is a charity that provides support for children and young people facing grief and loss as a result of bereavement, parental separation, parental relationship breakdown and divorce. Rainbows Ireland provides children affected by the aforementioned with the opportunity to interact with other children who are affected by the same issues. Approximately 2,800 children access Rainbows Ireland for support from over 2,500 trained volunteers.

The funds that are raised by our Coast to Coast Cycle will go towards the continuation of the following programmes:

Bereavement Weekly Programme 

Up to 30,000 children in Ireland experience a bereavement each year. Rainbows run a 9-week support programme for primary school aged children that provides support and assistance in dealing with the difficult emotions associated with grief.

Separation Programme

Over 1,800 children have received support from the Rainbows Separation Programme. This is a 9-week programme that helps primary school aged children work through their feelings, learn about different family dynamics and learn to accept their new circumstances.

Secondary School Programmes

Rainbows provide a 9-week programme for 1^st to Transition Year students who have been affected by parental separation/divorce and/or bereavement. This programme assists young people affected by these issues in learning to cope with difficult feelings such as anger.

Rainbows Ireland provides a safe space for children and young people to engage with their grief and to identify, understand and express their feelings in a health fashion. Their programmes provide a safe environment for children and young people to express their feelings and thoughts with trained listeners. The work of Rainbows Ireland provides a setting whereby children and young people affected by bereavement or parental separation can realise that they are not alone in their situation or their emotions. The services provided by Rainbows help them develop a healthy model of coping and support.
