It was announced today that Ireland is to offer temporary residence to 500 Afghanistan citizens under a new scheme by the Department of Justice.
The Afghan Admissions Programme will give priority to the most vulnerable Afghanistan citizens – the elderly, women, girls and people with disabilities.
The main points of the Programme are:
- Up to 500 additional places for Afghan family members to enter and reside in Ireland
- Afghan nationals living in Ireland on or before 1st September 2021 will be eligible to apply
- Applicants will be responsible for covering the nominee’s travel costs and for providing accommodation
- Up to 4 close family members can be nominated
- There will be an appeals process
Applications will open on Thursday 16 December and the closing date for applications is 10 February 2022.
Further guidance will be published by the Department when applications are open.
